About VDW

Headquartered in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, VDW serves as the voice of the German machine tool industry. In 2016, it commemorated its 125th anniversary. Comprising approximately 300 primarily mid-tier companies, VDW, in partnership with the Sector Association Machine Tools and Manufacturing Systems within VDMA (German Engineering Federation), represents a collective force. These entities contribute to nearly 90 percent of the sector’s overall turnover, which nearly reached 12.7 billion euros in 2021.

EMO Hannover – 22 to 27 September 2025

EMO Hannover, the world’s leading trade fair for production technology, is being hosted twice in succession in the odd years in Hanover. It is held under the aegis of the European Association of the Machine Tool Industries (Cecimo). Every sixth year, the Italian machine tool association hosts EMO in Milan. GrindingHub – 14 to 17 May 2024

With its clear focus, international approach and modern, hybrid trade fair concept, GrindingHub is the new industry meeting place for grinding technology – from the industry for the industry. The strong team of VDW, Messe Stuttgart and SWISSMEM as the promotional supporter, will bundle industry and trade fair expertise and create the new leading trade fair for the grinding industry at the modern Stuttgart trade fair venue for the first time in 2022. NORTEC – 23 to 26 January 2024

As the regional counterpart to EMO Hannover, VDW is presenting NORTEC in cooperation with Messe Stuttgart, for the first time under new responsibility. This well-established event focused on production technology is scheduled to occur in January 2024 at the exhibition center in Hamburg. The new organizers aim to introduce fresh opportunities that will enhance NORTEC‘s impact and accelerate technological advancement within the industry. umati: connecting the world of machinery

umati (universal machine technology interface) is the global initiative for open communication interfaces for the machine building industries and their customers. Machine builders, software producers, component suppliers, and users unite in a strong community to promote the use of open, standardized interfaces based on OPC UA companion specifications. umati ensures uniform implementation, provides a platform for sharing experience, creates visibility in the market, and provides hands-on demonstration of added value at https://umati.app.

umati facilitates the exchange of data between machines, components and installations and its integration into customer- and user-specific IT ecosystems – easily, seamlessly and securely.
